Critics Consensus

Hampstead plays matchmaker with a pair of talented veterans, but the sum of their efforts isn't enough to overcome a deeply mediocre story.

Hampstead | Rotten Tomatoes (1) Leah Pickett Chicago Reader Here Keaton reprises the role of the slightly kooky, klutzy, and lovable gal next door in this toasty crumpet of a film, set around London's scenic Hampstead Heath. Jul 18, 2019 Full Review Hampstead | Rotten Tomatoes (2) Glenn Kenny RogerEbert.com More often, though, Hopkins and writer Robert Festinger pile up the commonplaces hoping they'll result in actual characters. Rated: 2/4 Jun 14, 2019 Full Review Hampstead | Rotten Tomatoes (3) Gary Goldstein Los Angeles Times The quasi-credible friendship that develops between Emily and Harry gives way to a less plausible romance. But the winning, sympathetic Keaton and an enjoyably puckish Gleeson largely sell the contrived setup. Jun 13, 2019 Full Review Hampstead | Rotten Tomatoes (4) Rhodé Marshall City Press (South Africa) At best, you'll find this to be a corny comedy-drama that you wish you'd never seen. The acting isn't terrible, but not even that can save this from being uninspired. Apr 15, 2020 Full Review Hampstead | Rotten Tomatoes (5) Mark Dujsik Mark Reviews Movies Robert Festinger's screenplay never really establishes any expectations or promises for what the story and characters will be. Rated: 1.5/4 Jul 19, 2019 Full Review Hampstead | Rotten Tomatoes (6) Jackie K. Cooper jackiekcooper.com Diane Keaton still looks like Annie Hall, a little older and a little wiser. Pairing her with the grizzled but appealing Brendan Gleeson is a plus. Rated: 6/10 Jun 20, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews

Rated 0.5/5 Stars • Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/09/24 Full Review DM L What a beautiful, subtley-paced movie that charms with every gorgeous tree-leafed frame. The late life inquisitiveness and openness to life of Diane Keaton's character paired with Brendan Gleeson's strong masculine conviction make for a sexy partnership that inspires anyone over 60 who watches this gem that there are still possibilites that await. I luved it luved it luved it and have watched it many times. Rated 5/5 Stars • Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/10/23 Full Review isla s I quite liked this - its a British film with a curmudgeonly hermit type character who does become somewhat likeable in time. I think his stubbornness is somehow respectful too. Its an easy watch and there are some funny moments present too. It has a bit of a go at people making unfair assumptions at those they deem below them. The characters are a little quirky but in a good way generally. I quite enjoyed it and would recommend it. Rated 0.5/5 Stars • Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review funk l I thought it was better than the reviews, but always have had a positive nostalgic disposition towards Hampstead (the place) and Dianne Keaton, so maybe I'm a bit biased😳 Rated 3.5/5 Stars • Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member I adored this sweet movie. I loved how the man made his own rules for his life and I love how Diane Keaton was able to go with the flow because she cared for him. Very sweet movie. I want to see more like this.
