A FORMER RIVIERA BEACH POLICE SERGEANT CHARGED WITH AGGRAVATED BATTERY WITH A DEADLY WEAPON, COURT RECORDS SHOW. IN OCTOBER OF LAST YEAR, RUSSELL BYRD WAS OFF DUTY WHEN HE RESPONDED TO REPORTS OF A HOME THEFT WHILE SEARCHING FOR THE SUSPECT. THE REPORT SHOWS BYRD HAD A VERBAL EXCHANGE WITH A MAN, THEN HIT HIM IN THE HEAD WITH HIS GUN. THE VICTIM SUFFERED TWO CUTS TO HIS FACE, ACCORDING TO THE RIVIERA BEACH POLICE DEPARTMENT. BYRD RESIGNED FROM HIS JOB BECAUSE OF THOSE CHARGES. A JUDGE SET HIS BOND AT $5,000. THE FORMER POLICE SERGEANT WAS ORDERED TO HAVE NO CONTACT WITH THE VICTIM AND IS NOT ALLOWED TO HAVE A FIREARM IN HIS POSSESSION. NOW TAKE A LOOK AT THIS VIDEO HERE OF A BOAT ON FIRE IN BOYNTON BEACH. THIS HAPPENED JUST OFF SHORE NEAR THE HARBOR INLET CLUB. IT HAPPENED JUST AFTER 630 FRIDAY EVENING. FIREFIGHTERS SAY FIVE PEOPLE WHO WERE ON THAT BOAT, THEY HAD TO JUMP INTO THE WATER TO ESCAPE. AT ONE POINT, THE BOAT BEGAN TO DRIFT INTO OTHER BOATS THAT WERE DOCKED ALONG THE HARBOR, CAUSING THE FIRE TO SPREAD BEFORE CREWS WERE ABLE TO SUCCESSFULLY PUT OUT THOSE FLAMES. MONTHS AFTER A SEVEN YEAR-OLD GIRL DIED IN THE COLLAPSE OF A SAND HOLE IN THE BEACH IN LAUDERDALE BY THE SEA, THE TOWN IS MAKING SOME CHANGES. THE TOWN PASSING AN ORDINANCE THAT BANS THE REMOVAL OF SAND, AS WELL AS DIGGING OR EXCAVATING SAND, EARTH OR SOIL FROM ANY BEACH WITHIN TOWN LIMITS. NOW PEOPLE CANNOT DIG A HOLE OR TRENCH DEEPER THAN 80, 18IN OR LEAVE AN AREA WITHOUT FILLING A HOLE. BACK IN FEBRUARY, THAT GIRL DIED AFTER SHE AND HER NINE YEAR OLD BROTHER DUG A DEEP HOLE WHEN THE SAND COLLAPSED, TRAPPING BOTH OF THEM. HER BROTHER SURVIVED. VANESSA.
